There’s a lot to iron out regarding the twelve playoff teams and the various playoff matchups.

In the AL, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Seattle Mariners have the top two seeds respectfully, with first round byes. The Cleveland Guardians host the Detroit Tigers to see who will play Seattle, and the New York Yankees will host the Boston Red Sox to see who will play Toronto.

In the NL, the Milwaukee Brewers had the 1 seed by a mile with the best record in baseball this year, and the Philadelphia Phillies snagged the 2 seed. The Chicago Cubs will host the San Diego Padres for the chance to play Milwaukee, and the Los Angeles Dodgers will play host to the Cincinnati Reds, having clinched the last playoff spot on the last day of the season, to see who will play Philadelphia.

Of the 12 playoff teams, Seattle has never played in a World Series, and both the Brewers and Padres have never won one either, having last played in 1982, and 1998 respectfully. Cleveland last won in 1948, and has the longest active title drought in baseball. Detroit last won in 1984, Cincinnati last won in 1990, Toronto in 1993, Philadelphia in 2008, New York in 2009, Chicago in 2016, Boston in 2018, and the Dodgers are defending champions.

The remaining 18 teams will get +3 to their droughts as they missed the playoffs. The Los Angeles Angels, Houston Astros, Sacramento Athletics, Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants, Miami Marlins, New York Mets, Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers, Tampa Bay Rays, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins, and Chicago White Sox will all be watching the postseason from home this year.
