The Bulls won 6 NBA Titles in the 1990’s, which was more than any other team in any other North American sports league that decade, and hasn’t been matched by anyone in a 10 year period since. Since then however, they haven’t even come close to another title, having not made the NBA Finals since their last win in 1998, and playoff success is fleeting as they’ve lost in the play-in round the last 3 seasons.

The Bulls last won a title in 1998 (+27)

They last played in the Finals in 1998 (+27)

They did make the playoffs this past season (+0)

The Bulls have played in the Central Division since 1980, and since their last win in 1998, only three divisional rivals have won championships with the Detroit Pistons, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Milwaukee Bucks each winning once. (+3)

drought total=57

They started play in 1966, and have won 6 titles in 58 years so their expected win rate is 27(6/58)=2.793

drought x win rate=159.206

Year over year is a wash because they had the same record in each of the last 2 seasons 1-(.476-.476)=1

year over year x previous rate=159.206

Misery Index=159.206

Just goes to show that nothing breeds misery quite like expectations. Next time we go to the MLB again to look at the San Francisco Giants.
